Mega Man 2 - Dr. Wily Stage 1 by Takashi Tateishi | 2m 28s

Inspired by the song Okkusenman (110 million memories), which itself is based on the Mega Man 2 theme song. It’s my own take reflecting the current state of society. It covers how I often feel like we’re racing ahead full-steam without any limiters. The visuals have appearances by two of my favorite anime series, Initial D and Gundam.

The Humans are Dead

Tong Poo by Yellow Magic Orchestra | 2m 30s

The title and theme of this video is loosely inspired by the Flight of the Concords song of the same title. This video tells the story of a post-singularity world where humans have become extinct. The visuals are an artistic mashup between waneella‘s atmospheric cityspaces and Kirokaze‘s quirky, whimsical cyberpunk robots all to the tune of YMO’s Tong Poo. Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) was a highly influential, pioneering group for video game music in the late 1970’s in Japan.

Gamenite

Art3mis & Parzival by GUNSHIP | 4m 54s

Ready Player One is one of my favorite fiction novels and this song by Gunship is a dream collaboration. Gamenite is a riff of the Gunship original music video (watch on YouTube) that I made inspired by a Friday night pastime of playing video games with friends late into the night.

Starry, Starry Night

Starry Starry Night performed by Lianne La Havas (written by Don McLean) | 4m 27s

The video tells a story of magic, spirits, and mystical creatures. The soundtrack comes from the stunning film, Loving Vincent, a fully hand-painted feature film based on the life story of Vincent Van Gogh produced in his own painting style. The song reflects on his tragic journey and how his work would never realize success or recognition until past his death.

Hanami for my Honeymoo

Rain - Shichi Kotonoha No Niwa (Motohiro Hata) | 4m 40s

This song is from Makoto Shinkai’s film, Garden of Words. His films have always left a lasting impression on me but this song especially so. I paired it with visuals and notations of the memorable places me and my wife visited during our multi-month long trips to Japan we took during our honeymoon.

The Wave Has Come

Ah puh (어푸 (Ah puh)) by IU | 3m 19s

This is IU x Studio Ghibli with undertones revolving around the theme of climate change. This is my favorite IU song and I wanted to make something silly and upbeat for a change but then I had the idea of creating ironic visuals of a changing world with rising sea levels.

What Will You Leave Behind?

What Will You Leave Behind by Max LL (feat. Maude Plante-Husaruk) | 2m 34s

Inspired after an unforgettable experience playing Spiritfarer; this is an absolutely moving song from it’s soundtrack. In this game, you operate a vessel to care for and bring those near the end of their lives to the eternal gates. In parallel, I attempted to capture these emotions regarding life and preparing for the end in this video.

Osaka Dreams

Osaka Lover by Dreams Come True | 3m 25s

If you ever visited Universal Studios Japan in Osaka and rode the Hollywood Dream rollercoaster, then you will know this song. It’s permanently etched into my brain as the USJ theme song. Also, being the home of Nintendo World, there are special appearances from some familiar characters in this video.

Let’s Leave This City Together

Bỏ Em Vào Balo (Lofi Ver.) by Tân Trần x Freak D | 3m 5s

This song is reminiscent of my time living in Vietnam and speaks of a city strife with pollution and noise. So much so that we dream of the days we can leave the city for the idyllic countryside. This conflict exists in many places between life in the hectic, crowded city set against the slow, simple life in the country.
